New projects have been started for 2 types of armored vehicles.
The first consists of 8 armored panel-vans based on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 513 CDi. These will have a modified rear as opposed to the ones built in 2010 and 2011. Additional systems will be included as a result of European standardization with this company. This increases the complexity of the security systems integrated in these vehicles.
The other project consists of 5 small trunkers base upon Mercedes-Benz Vario 816D. These will be the last vehicles built on the basis of the Vario as this vehicle will no longer be available as of mid 2013. These trucks are being build in order to replace older ones that as a result of regulation on environmental issues (particle emissions) have passed the age until which a general waiver exists for armored vehicles. This concerns environmental zones in the city-centres of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and others.
